IEQ IntelliNRG™ Lighting used:
- Induction high bay light
Formed in 1989 after the merger of Guinness Malaysia Bhd and Malayan Breweries (Malaya) Sdn Bhd, Guinness Anchor Berhad (GAB) is one of the leaders in Malaysia’s beer and stout market.
As a market leader, GAB’s portfolio is filled with iconic international brands that include:
- Beer brands such as Asia’s fastest growing beer Tiger, world’s number one stout Guinness Foreign Extra Stout and its variant Guinness Draught, world’s number one international premium beer Heineken, and local brew Anchor
- Premium Irish ale, Kilkenny
- Shandy brand, Anglia
- Premium quality non-alcoholic Malta
- World’s best selling cider, Strongbow
- Number one German wheat beer, Paulaner
Operating 12 hours a day and 6 days a week, the energy used to power the lighting in the Sungei Way Brewery, GAB’s main packaging and bottling plant in Selangor, makes up for a significant portion of the electricity consumed at the plant. With a commitment to reduce energy consumption and promote environmental conservation, GAB uses state of the art energy saving induction lights from IEQ Global in the Brewery in an effort to reduce both its carbon footprint and operating costs. As part of their Corporate Responsibility (CR) framework, GAB replaces their existing metal halide high bays with IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction high bays as induction lighting technology is energy efficient and long lasting.
By replacing their conventional metal halide high bay lamps with IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction high bay lamps, GAB is able to reduce their electricity consumption by 200,000 kWh, which is 50 to 55% of their lighting power consumption.
This reduction in electricity consumption can be attributed to the more than halved wattage of the IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction high bay lamps. Despite the smaller wattage, the IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction lamps have a much higher lumen efficacy and better colour rendering index (CRI) as compared to conventional metal halide lamps. Together with a significant longer lifespan of 100,000 burning hours, IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction lamps enable GAB to achieve immediate and concrete reductions in operational energy consumption.
Furthermore, long term savings can be observed due to the long lifespan of IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction lamps. Instead of relying on a filament— the single highest point of failure in conventional lamps— to light up the bulb, Induction lamps use inductive technology to deliver a constant phosphorus glow without the usual electrodes. In contrast to the high lumen depreciation of metal halide lamps, IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction lamps have exceptionally low lumen depreciation. With low lumen depreciation and an extremely long lifespan, this allows GAB to reduce the need for re-lamping yearly to once every five years, thus making it a virtually maintenance free operation.
Being the first brewery in Malaysia to achieve the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification from the Ministry of Health, GAB is dedicated to effective risk management. As the IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction lamps have minimal electromagnetic or Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and UV emissions, along with no mercury vapour, the employment of IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction lamps mitigates the probability of electrical fires and glass contamination arising from faulty incandescent light source over-heating or exploding.
GAB’s decision to replace conventional lights with energy conserving IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction lamps has resulted in the immediate halving of energy consumption. With the exceptional ROI of IEQ IntelliNRG™ Induction lamps, operational costs from lighting are greatly reduced by more than 50%.
